Board-Certified Expertise: A board-certified veterinary dermatologist has significant training and experience in the treatment of skin diseases, as well as in internal medicine, immunology and allergy. Additional training after veterinary school consists of a 1 year general internship, as well as sometimes an additional 1 year dermatology specialty internship, followed then by a 3 year dermatology residency. A rigorous and comprehensive examination must also be passed to become a board-certified diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology (ACVD).
